Mezeskalacs (Honey-Cakes)
Mézeskalács, or honey cakes, are a six-inch heart-shaped cookie similar to gingerbread, but made with honey instead of molasses for a lighter texture. A Hungarian tradition, the honey cakes have red icing and elaborate decorations with a small mirror in the center.
The honey cake is traditionally written with "szívküldi szívnek", which means "from a heart, to a heart". The perfect gift to send to a loved one! Send one for Valentine's Day, Sweetest Day, Mother's Day or a Hunagarian name day!

Dobo's ≠ dobos
Despite the similarity, dobos (DOH-bohsh) is not the same as Dobo's. Our Hungarian name is Dobo, while 'dobos' means 'like a drum' in Hungarian. Hence the drum shape of the traditional torte. However, The Dobos Torte was actually created by Austrian pastry chef Josef Dobos, which also isn't the same as Dobo. |
