Bakery History

Over 90 Years in Business!

Although we have only been called Dobo's Delights since 1997, the bakery has been in continuous operation for nearly a century, and has survived as many as nine owners, eight name changes and one relocation.  In 2002, Dobo's will again be relocating, this time to 417 N. Main St. in downtown Piqua.  The following table shows the progression of owners and name changes.

Some interesting historical notes:

Dobo's Delights is the only surviving independent retail bakery in Piqua, and very few are left in Miami County. At it's height, Piqua had as many as ten bakeries. (Of course there weren't a lot of "supermarkets" at the time.)

The last independent bakery to close operations in Piqua was Gerlach's bakery, mentioned in the above history. It operated from 1866 - 1989, almost 125 years. Our salt-rising bread recipe was a Gerlach's specialty for generations.
